Electric bill

Hi claireloupul - According to your posted figures over this 58 Day period, you have used 17.5 Kw a day on the cheap NIGHT rate supply, and 39Kw a day on the expensive DAY rate supply
This ratio of the Day units being more than twice as many as the Night units, is totally outside the normal pattern of ECO7 meter consumption, and points to the probability that the Day & Night readings having been swapped over when reading are taken and the bills issued
To check this, during the daytime when the meters Night use screen should not be active, switch a kettle on and off and see which screen records the kettles consumption, then as a belt and braces check, do the same thing again in the wee small hours to establish which screen is recording the Night use - If indeed they have previously been read the wrong way round, report this to the supplier - Better by letter.
Even if there is a 'Swap' problem which can be solved, this still leaves a huge figure of 17.5Kw a day on the expensive Day rate - Check the Immersion tank cupboard - it will have a switch that allows you to cook up Hot water during the day if you have used up the Hot water produced overnight. If this Switch has been left on it will burning 3KW an hour till the tank thermostat turns it off, and as the water cools the thermostat will turn it on again0 -
Hello thanks for you reply sorry it's taken me so long, I don't get on here much.
I decided to wait for another bill and sure enough it was £271.97 and per day econ 7 night we are using 1680kwh and day rate per day 2154kwh.
Thing is we never turn the emersion on because of our high electric bills. I have asked Scottish power to investigate cause £100 or even £90 per month for electric is just absurd really.
Will keep you informed what happens.
cheers again0 -
Hi,
wow, seems hefty for your day rate.
You say you never turn the immersion heater on, how do you get your hot water?
Could be that immersion heater is on all the time, can you trace it back to a switch or timer?0 -
Thanks for the prompt reply,
We don't really use hot water as we have an electric shower.
the only thing is we leave the dishes to the end of the day and boil the kettle, as were both cabin crew that isn't even every day as were away alot.
The emersion heater has two switches one for evening econ 7 and one for the daytime booster, since our last bill I think I've put it on once to have a bath, after one hour switched both of the switches off.
Thing is our landlord was living here with his wife and baby and he said he used to leave the emersion on the econ 7 all the time, the washer machine was on all the time, he had extra heaters in the living room and bedroom he and his wife would shower everyday and his bills were £45 per month, which seems correct as my friend who lives in a one bed flat with storage heaters and leaves her emersion on all the time pays £120 per quarter.
Does just seem a little on the high side.
Thanks again0
