System restore not working

I was given a new iPod, which I was charging from my PC. Suddenly my laptop froze and the screen turned pink. I had to switch it off and on. It took an age to start up again.
I stopped charging the iPod, but the screen froze again. I'd only this morning done an AV in safe mode, so tried to do system restore. I got the following message:
'System restore is unable to protect your computer. Please restart your computer and run system restore again.'
I restarted but it still didn't work. I tried to do it in safe mode, but it won't go to safe mode.
Any suggestions please!
:eek:Thanks.

Had any problems with virus/malware on your laptop?
What antivirus are you running and any other security programmes installed?
Try running a scan with Malwarebytes just to check you don't have anything nasty, download the latest version of Malwarebytes from filehippo.com.
Once downloaded, open Malwarebytes and update it first before running a quick scan.
If Malwarebytes finds anything remove the problems found and post the log file in your next message.

Hi there
Thanks for response.
System restore was working a month ago, so it's failure is a new thing.
Malware showed no errors.
I use AntiVir, Spybot and Super AntiSpyware.
Am now checking for updates.

Hi
It's XP.
I've updated and managed to log on using safe mode, but no joy with the System Restore.

Hi Dogmaryxxx
That worked!!!
That's weird, as I did that yesterday and it didn't. It might because XP wasn't up to date.
THANK YOU to YOU AND Fiddiweb for your help!!!
I am so relieved now.
