Job offer and I'm scared to death!

Hi everyone
I heard yesterday that I was successful in my interview on Wednesday and have been offered the job and now I'm scared to death!
I got made redundant last June, after working for a bank for 14 years. I didn't immediately look for a new job, as I moved into a new house with my mum and we've been busy building an annex.
The job sounds good, the building felt very comfortable when I went for my interview and the pay isn't bad (although abut £4K less than I used to earn, which I was expecting!) The location isn't where I was looking for and although only about 4 miles, its quite a difficult drive in rush hour but hey ho, at least I don't need to get the bus!
When I had the call yesterday, I can honestly say I was shocked by how I felt! I thought I would be jumping up and down for joy, as since the building work has finished I've been desperate to get back to a normal working life! Instead I was absolutely terrified and thought of a couple of questions I wanted clarified, so that I could think about it over the weekend.
Today I'm more excited and I honestly think I could be happy working there, although my tummy does a flip everytime I think about it!
I was just wondering if others have felt the same as me, when finally hearing they have a job and how do you cope with the feeling of unconfidence and fear?

It's easy to fall into the "what if" trap, so make sure all the "what ifs" are positive ones, not negatives..................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)0 -
Heh-heh. Its understandable. After all, you'd been in your previous job for 14 years so I think its just the fear of the unknown. Once you've got the first week over, you'll wonder what all the fuss was about.0

First, congratulations on getting the job.
It's only natural to feel nervous, you're starting a whole new career, meeting new people and learning new things. Try and see it as a positive thing.
I'm sure i'll feel the same if I can ever find another job.0 -

I feel very embarrassed as I'm 47 years old but feel like I'm reacting like a silly schoolgirl! I've always lacked a bit of confidence, although I hide it well.
I've decided to take a deep breath, put a big smile on my face and embrace the challenge of a new job in a positive way! I'll also have my rescue remedy in my handbag to use on that first day!
It'll be good to get back to a normal working life, thats for sure! :T0 -
YOU Go girl .. knock em out and CONGRATULATIONS

It's perfectly natural to feel the way you do, and you have nothing whatsoever to be embarrassed about.
Chin up and have a great first day.0 -
Thank you for the replies and encouragement!
I knew I was being daft and also hard on myself! Its going to be very strange being the new girl again but its also exciting to think of all the new things to learn!
I think I was just disappointed by my reaction as I honestly thought I would be ecstatic when that job offer came through, so it was a bit scarey when the opposite happened!
I'll formally accept the job on Monday when they call me again (hopefully I haven't blown it by asking a couple of questions!), then make plans to go out and celebrate with my friends next weekend!
Good luck to all those that are still looking - I hope the perfect job comes along for you soon! x0 -
Congratulations on your new job :T
I always think fear and excitement of the unknown is natural, but will soon disappear once you settle into the role. Your new employers obviously think you can do the job and will fit in, so use that as a confidence boost
