I blame the previous goverment, clock is ticking for condem to sort this mess out

What annoys me, is that there seems to be a growing culture of people who borrow money, then complain when they have to pay it back.

Oh yes they are happy to take the money but when it comes to paying back on the terms they signed up to they but then they break them and starting complaining.

The country is in far more of a mess because of people who take out credit only then not too pay it back.

How does crippling people with excess charges and heavy handed collection help the situation when it arises. It does not.

No disrespect to the above, its people in suits taking advantage of people who are not.

This bit I don't get - why does having an empty bank account mean you miss the hospital appointment (more than once)? Don't you have any friends or family that could take you, or phone the hospital and see if there's any transport scheme you could use?
loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.

Gosh, haven't you got the ability to be able to see that sometimes things go wrong beyond your control??

Yes some people deliberately borrow with no intention of paying back, but the OP has a legitimate situation arise, meaning she is unable to repay.

I was also in a situation where things changed and we could not repay.

Considering the OP details her partner has effectively been put in hospital because of them taking food money, I find your post hugely offensive.:(

In a decent society the op would have her debt frozen and be excluded from ALL further borrowing until her debts had been repaid no matter how long it takes.

Instead we have bankster scum robbing the less able, supported by their stooges in the credit reference agencies.

I don't know all the answers, but the above situation is morally wrong and should be illegal.

No one should be given a fsa license to lend, if interest is over 20% and have rip off charges when things go wrong.

In that society you describe, the OP would NEVER be able to borrow money.

The reason the APRs are high is because the borrower is deemed risky to lend to. If lenders are forced to lower their APRs and prevented from adding charges, then they will simply stop lending to those who are not financially well off.

As a matter of fact, if APRs over 20% were outlawed then a lot of credit cards would be lost and ALL financial products to those with less than perfect credit history would be removed from the market.

People who have poor (or no) credit history would be unable to get any financial products to prove that they're capable of managing their finances and build a good credit record. This would lead to them being unable to get mortgages, loans for cars or take advantage of "normal" BNPL deals on sofas, white goods, etc.

Is this what you would really like to see?

End of the day, every borrower makes a conscious decision to borrow that money - no-one has forced them to do so.
My posts are my own opinions based on my experiences and info gathered from sites such as this.
