14 days to pay reduced charge..

Hi All,

I have a parking fine from the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea and received a reply letter rejecting my initial challenge.

I have 14 days to pay the reduced (4 left) to pay the reduced charge (-50%) of £60.

I literally don't have the money and would like to contact them to see about extending this period to the end of the month?

Is this heard of/possible in anyone experience?

Thanks,

Z

Fat chance and none regrettably. Go to pepipoo.com and show them your ticket, both sides and they will help if anyone can.
    What was the fine for?

Why are you looking to rush to pay it without continuing your appeal? Is it because of the way they word their bribe (discounted fine)? Makes my blood boil that Councils can do this (routinely reject initial appeals then offer a bribe to pay less but with a short time-frame given) which makes most people just rush to pay and think they have no chance now of winning.

It has got to be worth appealing any Council parking ticket all the way to the adjudicator every time IMHO, why would you not? You only risk eventually, possibly, being told to pay the full fine. But you have a higher chance of having the ticket cancelled completely (most in cases which go that far the motorist wins or the Council fold).

The odds are in your favour to continue appealing, but do get pepipoo help:

Councils are well known to turn down most informal appeals, so that was not a surprise but the initial rejection does NOT mean you have not got a case! Read the pepipoo FAQs and stickies, take a clear picture or scan of both sides of your PCN (as per their sticky 'how to post pictures') blank off car ID and PCN number and attach it to a new thread asap.

You will probably be pleasantly surprised...usually there are several points of appeal.

  • Seems they have been on pepipoo for some time and are part way through the system.

    Hi all,

Thanks for your encouraging and somewhat inspiring posts (Coupon-mad) :).

I did create two threads on Pepipoo actually :). Didn't et too many positive reactions, although, I think I may have some grounds to make a case for myself with the City of Westminster one found here: http://forums.pepipoo.com/index.php?showtopic=58106&st=0&gopid=551202&#entry551202 .

I was just asking, as I didn't think I had a chance and the situation looked rather bleak, so I was just going to give in and pay up?

You recommend appealing ALL PCNs? Or only where there are at least some ground for a case? If so, which grounds would you personally take into consideration before formally appealing a PCN?

-£60 is a lot more attractive than -£120, but if you think it's worth a shot, I'll go for it!

    Thanks,

    Z
  • From what I read they were trying hard to help you but in one thread were waiting pics? Go back to them, be patient its a weekend.

OK, nowadays, knowing what I have read on forums I would indeed personally appeal ANY Council PCN I have the pleasure to receive. Even if I felt I was bang to rights I would still appeal because people often win at adjudication based on mistakes made by the Council in their letters, rejections & procedures later on. And the lines & signs often contradict the Traffic Order, etc., the odds are so much in favour of the motorist it has got to be worth appealing every single one.

At PCN stage you may look stuffed, but how can you know if the Council are going to get the process right all the way to the adjudicator? IMHO they usually do NOT.

For any Council PCN I would get pepipoo help as you have done, I would email the Council for the relevant Traffic Order every time and pick it apart with their help. And look for technical appeals in the ticket, rejection letters, NTO and of course the lines and signs.

Unfortunately I have only ever had one and that was for parking on a single yellow line. I paid it (a few years ago) but subsequently learnt much later that I need not have done because the line had no sign. I still remember that fact and am still a bit miffed, but never again. I should have appealed.

In your case please bump your thread on pepipoo, you cannot expect other people to remember it and reply if you have not. If you need further help - which you clearly do - then reply on your own thread there to ask for what help you need. If you have not posted the pics they needed to see then do it asap.
