Weird Problem with Computer/Router?

:( Hi - I am having a weird problem on either my computer or router. I have a Dell desktop running Vista and a Belkin Modem/Router. I have my broadband with Talk Talk. On Wednesday and today when using the computer there is a dialling tone, like someone ringing a telephone number out. This lasts for approx 30 seconds.

Computer was running slow and not booting up intermittently and I had a tech guy out to see it Wednesday. He cleaned things up for me and not slow now.

I have Norton Internet Security 2011 running.

Anyone know what could be the problem?

Thanks.

is it coming from the speakers or an internal fax/modem or somewhere else?

    when does it happen

what are you connection settings in internet explorer, tools, internet options, connections?

Not very good on technical stuff but I had a look in tools, connections and it shows three items: 1.3G, Broadband Connection (default) and Tiscali. Also never dial a connection is ticked. I think the noise is coming from my speakers but not sure. The speaker is next to the Modem/Router. Computer has been a bit slow but okay now, and tech guy checked a few things. This problem started before he touched my computer and today as I said.

Hope someone can shed light on this.

Hi, It has only occurred twice now, and when I have booted up etc. Not sure of when exactly. Today my daughter was on the computer when it happened and this was approx say 20 minutes after boot up. I have turned off speaker nothing happened and then turned on again and no ring tone. So randomly (twice).

Thanks Gunjack. The techie guy who came and looked at my computer mentioned microfilter, but I can connect to internet no problem and computer is a lot lot faster now. I will try a new microfilter tomorrow.

Going to bed now but will try above tomorrow and see what happens.

    Thanks
