Old Itunes with new Ipod?

Hi, I'm not too good with technology I'm afraid!
I have a fairly old 3rd generation Ipod which I'm looking to replace with a newer model.
Am I right in thinking that all my current Itunes will still be there when I register a new one onto my pc? Or will the CD create a new (blank) Itunes file?
I would be grateful for any advice

I don't think 5G Ipods come with an Itunes CD anymore - Apple assume everyone will d/l of t'internet. But anyway, I've upgraded from V6 to V7 of iTunes and it does keep the Library intact on the PC
I've also used my 4G and 5G Ipod on the same PC without any problems.0
