On the LSE ETFS Short Gold (SBUL)

On the NYSE Powershares Short Gold, single and double. Make sure you understand them before you use them, these are trading vehicles, best suited to short term trading. They aren't something I'd recommend to the inexperienced.

  • I wasn't thinking about shorting now I still think gold has a year to 18 months to run, but then I think the wheels will come off. I asked so I could educate myself about such products and decide whether or not I want to use such a thing when the time comes. :)

Wise thinking, shorting gold here would be a fatal mistake, imo. give it a year or two, keep your eye on the game, and it could indeed be a strategy that pays off but just because a few wall st jockeys and hamish tell you it's a bubble ready to pop does not make it enough of a reason to put your money on the line on the short side now(at least not long term) watch the big boys, when paulson soros etc bail then go short but they are still aggresively on the buy side. Don't fight the big boys...you'll lose:)

    I utterly agree. However:

The day I get in a taxi and the driver tells me to buy some gold is the day I put my shorting plan into action, so my plans will be well laid :rotfl:

Damn right, when the shoe shine boy/ barber/ bus/ taxi driver gives me a gold /silver tip, I'm out, cash in my gold and silver and will then buy the most unloved asset in the world, whatever that is at the time(prob property):)

How do you know smeagold isn't a taxi driver? :)
  • Someone I know got into a taxi a few weeks ago and the driver said he didn't know what the problem was with people moaning about money. He said it's easy to make money - he bought gold a month ago, sold it a couple of weeks later and made £6K.

    Tick, tick, tick........
