Hello,
Bookdepository.co.uk is going to make a refund back to my credit card.
The problem now is that my credit card has been cancelled last week because of fraud problems and they have sent me a new credit card.
What happens if the refund is done to the cancelled credit card ?
Will it go through ? Is the new credit card linked to the old one ?
I suppose not.

The refund will be made the card that was used to pay for the item. The transaction will be authorised by the bank. Because, the card in question has been cancelled, the money would temporarily go into a 'suspense account' and the bank will eventually allocate the credit to the new card (if your new card is with the same issuer - if not, then you will receive a cheque from the bank after a fair few days!).0

How will they know to which new card it will be allocated ?
I'm from Portugal, and this particular credit card I have doesn't belong to any Bank.
They simply have only credit cards and have no Bank accounts (and of course no cheques).
So I don't know if what you say will apply to this particular case.
Will bookdepository.co.uk accept a new credit card number ?
I probably think not...0 -

For 'bank' read 'card issuer'0 -
If the institution only offers credit cards and your new card is with the same institution then they will be able to allocate the credit to your account that is active (ie the account that has replaced the old one). If they can't do this, they will send a cheque (does not matter if they don't issue cheques for customer use... they can still use cheques to make payments). Bookdepository.co.uk might call you and offer you a refund by cheque if the refund to your card gets declined.
My company deals with a lot of refunds being made to cards that have either expired since the transaction was made or perhaps have been cancelled by the customer because of fraudulent use but we only ever make the refund to the card that was used in the first place and the transaction is almost always authorised. We are allowed to send the refund by cheque only if the refund transaction gets declined (this happens extremely rarely!). However, we are never allowed to take a new card number to process the refund.0
