MSN install?

I can't access any of my email accounts unless I install a new version "windows live messenger".
Why is this happening? I don't want to install anything and wondering if there's any way around this , or if I should just install it?

Just noticed this today...upon logging in to Windows Live Messenger, I am greeted with the message that to continue I have to install the newest version...I have seen it listed as "important" in Windows Update for a while now, but I haven't bothered with it.
It seems that MS are going the way they go wth xbox --> If you decline updates, you cannot play online...

If you reject this one, it kicks you back to the sign in window...

It won't let me sign in at all. I think it's ridiculous having to install something as it's not a security thing , is it? It's probably some bloated redesign. Guess i'll have to suck it and see and press "yes"

  • I believe (memory fails at times) that a friend that had that too , and I think I used control panel / programs and either used change or uninstall for windows live, and then it prompted what do you want to uninstall, bit vague I know:o. But I would use Thunderbird instead , cos IMHO it's miles better.

It is a security thing. they are doing it to try and get rid of the malicious 'add friends' thing which has been prevalent fro the last few years...

Just uninstall it then reinstall the new version if its being a pain
