AOL - Free Wireless Router Question

Is it correct that AOL provide the Netgear DG834G router when you take out their broadband on a 12 month contract?
Also, if you use this router, do you need to install AOL's software or is this totally optional?
Thanks. (just ordered AOL Broadband Silver to replace my Tiscali service, first month free, £35 from Quidco and a free router....)

Yes, I believe so.
No - you just need to enter your AOL screen name in router's settings - http://info.aol.co.uk/help/broadband/installguides/DG834G.html is a wizard, but you can do it manually.0 -
Excellent.
Looks like I've made a good move then. Was going to buy a similar wireless router anyway, and use it with my horrid Tiscali connection.0 -
im using the same router
it was very easy to setup & secure
it has also been very reliable as well0 -
Well you need to give your AOL screenname and password to the router but you do not need to have AOL to access the router (hope that makes sense).0
-
Yeah, that's fine.
As long as I don't need to install that "AOL 8.0" crap, I'm happy.0 -
If I can recall it properly you run the router software and it asks for your screen name and password then asks if you want to install the lastest AOL version. Have you already got your screenname? I know you don't have to have AOL to use the router because friends can use my wireless connection (I have to give them the password) and when the AOL servers have been down I have just opened internet explorer.0

I already have my screen name yes. Router should be here within 7 days and my connection should be migrated then as well.0

I just had a and look a mine (I've thown the box away) but it is a speedtouch by Thompson. I am on the most expensive tariff so not sure if that is a factor anyway it works really well no complaints but I thought I would mention it in case you really wanted the Netgear.0
-
Suppose it doesn't really matter, as long as it's stable and works without me using AOL's browser :-d.
Netgear would be nice but as long as it works ................
