Help!! Keyboard Problem

My daughter as a small low tech MSI netbook operating Windows XP.
She has probably pressed something but I can't work out what, but the keyboard is not working properly but is working with the shortcut keys only.
For example you get no text when you type, but if you click 'N' whilst in Google Chrome you get a new window open.
I tried to google the problem but only solutions I could find was to try pressing the function key with NumLK & trying function key NumLk & Caps Lock together, neither of which have done anything.
Any ideas would be much appreciated.

It sounds like Windows 'Sticky Keys'. If you press the Winkey + U it should open up the Accessibility Options and you can disable Sticky Keys from there.0

Thank you, I did try this but they were not on, I did try applying then and then turn them back off, but it didn't work.
Any other ideas?:hello:0 -
hi this sounds like you turned the function keys on, normally turn off by pressing num lock or FN + num lock0

Other than FN and Sticky Keys the only other things I can think of at the moment are a faulty keyboard (matrix) or a literal stuck key. Slowly press the keys one at a time and see if they feel tacky, could be something's got spilt in there. Otherwise try plugging a USB keyboard in and see if you experience the same problems with that. If not try pricing up a replacement keyboard.0 -
Rebooted?
control keys stuck?!!

Thank you for all your suggestions, nothing is working, have tried everything I am capable of so think it may be something a little more serious.
To top it off my son has just broken the screen on his netbook, so I have 1 with a broken keyboard and 1 with a broken screen!!:hello:0
