PayPal help

Just registered with PayPal in order to purchase something on Ebay for £765. Bid & won the item them tried to pay with my newly created PayPal account but was unable to do so. Message something about they also wanted my bank account details. Need to verify the account.

Please can anyone explain.

You normally have to verify by giving them the details of a code or small amount of money they put into your account, which will show up on your statement or onto your card.

I verified a new card last week and the code showed on my account the next working day so I think its a quick process.

There should be an option on your account to 'verify your account' if I recall correctly

I verified several accounts with two different banks and it's never taken one working day, more like three working days.
You may be lucky, but if I were you I'd let the seller know that it may take a few days.

Been looking around on the PayPal web site & if I verify my account the payment will be made from my bank account not my credit card. The whole idea of paying for the item with my credit card was in the event of a problem I had the protection afforded to my by the credit card company.

The world is getting far too complicated for me.

You have protection from Paypal.

Very few card companies offer any protection when you use Paypal as you are not paying directly with the card but via a third party.

I have two PP accounts and all have verified accounts, as well as linked debit cards, when I purchase something PP will choose the bank payment as default, but gives me the option to change it to my card (after going through a screen asking if I'm really sure, as using my bank account is soooooooooooooo much better)

I was aware that paypal is not a bank, therefore doesn't have to adhere to the banking code and therefore offers no real protection as a high street credit card payment would.

However, to learn that credit card payments made via paypal are not covered by the credit card company worries me.

Just like Mike, I make payments from a credit card, rather than via a bank for peace of mind - but now I'll have to check the small print on the credit card terms and conditions!

I use a Post Office credit card - doe anyone know if it covers paypal transactions or if I can find out somewhere on-line?

First direct has helped me - some 2 years ago, but they don't now. Most banks, reading the threads on here and other fora(ums) I get the same impression. Obviously I don't have cards with all banks , but from what I have seen, and the handful I have, I would say the vast majority see PP as a third party payment and as such do not give their normal assurances.
