Vent - Tesco Delivery

Options
Just a vent really! I get a weekly delivery to my address and received one yesterday as usual. My mother is awaiting a knee replacement so I decided to get an order delivered to her address to avoid her having to go out. This morning I got a phone call from the lady that is lodging with me to say Tesco were at the door with a delivery and she was sure I had had a delivery yesterday. I could not speak as I was about to go into a meeting and explained it was for my mother and they had got the wrong address, could she please tell the delivery man. My mother called me later after I got in and said the Tesco man "wiped the floor with her". She was quite upset and told me I must be careful to put the right address down in future. I was certain I had and when I checked the receipt, sure enough, my mother's address was at the top. When I spoke to my lodger she confirmed the delivery man had been in a foul mood when he mistakenly went to my house and said he had initially repeatedly refused to deliver it to my mother. She claimed he said "he does not deliver to addresses other than what he is given in writing". But he was given the correct address in writing. My guess is that he regularly delivers to me, saw the name and assumed that it was to be delivered to my house.

My mother was terribly embarrassed and repeatedly apologised to him and said he was quite intimidating and nasty in the way he spoke to her, telling her he shouldnt have had to deliver it to her and he should have just left it with the lodger, and she needs to get "it sorted", whatever that means. I pointed out to her that it was his error. I called Tesco to see what had happened, explaining the correct address was on the receipt he gave my mother and they said yes it was his error but didn't seem to think there was anything wrong with his manner. I didn't want a refund or compensation but an apology would have been nice.

Yeah that is way out of line and don't blame you for feeling aggrieved. I recommend writing a letter of complaint about this as a call won't be taken as seriously.

To be honest, had that been me at the door I would have REALLY have made his day a whole lot worse if he tried to disperse his own fault onto me.

People like that only sound off at the vunerable not anyone who looks even remotely capable of standing up for themselves.

I'd be raising hell with Tesco customer service if anyone had upset my mother like that and I'd keep escalating til she was given a proper apology.

Definitely a well written letter of complaint to head office.

Mention that apart from the bad behaviour of the delivery driver you were less than impresses with the initial handling of your complaint.

I'll be very surprised if you do not get a proper apology.
