Currys - what to do next?

I'm looking for some advice as to how to proceed with Currys - I apologise if this has been covered before. I bought a washing machine in March 2010 from Currys online, in October it broke down.It was repaired (new pump and PCB) by a local company sent by Currys, this took 3 weeks (I appreciate from other posts that this is "good"). 8 weeks later the machine broke again - a different engineer from the same comapny has said it is the same fault and needs another pump,PCB and a module and that there is probably an inherent fault in the machine. I have contacted Currys to request a replacement machine rather than repair one that is going to break down again. I have been amazed at the unhelpful, ignorant and at times rude "advisors". After several hours on the phone being passed round and always getting the same "party line" I was put through to a senior manager (?) who told me firstly that by accepting the goods from Currys I accepted their terms and conditions which supersede my statutory rights under the SoGA and that under an amendemnt in 2002 to SoGA retailers have the right to repair goods 4 times before offering a replacement!! Both statements are clearly untrue however when I said that he told me I would have to speak to their litigation department. My question is what do I do now? Accept the fact that Currys are useless, have the machine repaired and wait for the next break down. Or cut my losses and go and buy another machine - though obviously not from Currys.

Your best bet is go into a Currys store (preferably one with a TechGuys area) and explain your situation to them.
Fact is under SoGA they can choose which is most cost efficient to them to repair/replace/refund.

Chances are they will repair it again, nothing to say it wasn't a inherent fault with the parts supplied and repaired with.
  • Thabks for the swift reply. I forgot to put in the original post that I'd tried the local store who just said that they wouldn't deal with it as it was on online purchase.
