I am now in two minds about the colour of my kitchen units. I still like maple but am now also considering oak units painted light blue, perhaps duckegg blue. I will still probably go for a black, perhaps Angolan Blue/Blue in the Night. My only concern is my kitchen may now contain too much blue.

Alan M - what colour of granite would you suggest goes best with a light blue painted kitchen unit?

Black and the varying shades of black go with pretty much anything (other than Black units IMO) so they are always a safe bet.

Steel Grey would work with Blue but all these dark colours are going to make it look cold.

I have had a customer buy Kashmir Gold from us and expalin they were putting them on "duck egg blue" cupboards - it sounded shocking to me until they showed me a photograph of the finished article. It was stunning - the contrast really worked well.

It's not a colour combination I would ever have considered before I'd been shown the end result.

Kashmir White would also work nicely with the light blue colour - but that's going to look quite traditional - as in georgian/victorian traditional.

If you're going with a modern look Quartz might actually be a better route.

We bought a small piece of black granite worktop last year to go on top of an old chest. We had it fitted specially by a local firm for just under £500. However, soon after we bought it I noticed a small indented mark that looks rather like a rust mark right in the middle of the piece of granite. I have no idea what it is or what caused it but it has spoiled the look of the chest.

We now want to replace the worktops in the kitchen but are unsure whether to use the company we used last time. Does anyone have any idea what might have caused the rust mark or have an opinion whether we should use the same company?

I'm not an expert on granite worktops but my worktops are star galaxy black granite.
    Granite is a natural product.
One of my worktops has a tiny difference in the patterning but the surface is completely smooth so I assume that this is not a flaw but something that naturally occurred several millions years ago when the granite formed.
Granite is the hardest rock so it's unlikely that anything you did has caused the mark.
However, as I mentioned, I'm not an expert so someone who is may be along soon to give their opinion.

Not sure where you are, but I used Granite Direct in Enfield (http://www.granitedirect.ltd.uk/contactus.html) to supply and fit quartz and they did a great job.

Edit: just seen you are in Eastbourne, so probably not much help, but they said they would supply and fit in Brighton where my friend has a flat.

I delete my previous post commenting about Granitefitters because more transpired!!

Having not heard from him, it turned out he had been taken into hospital with suspected appendicitus but had been discharged. He contacted me on the Thursday to apologise for this and to offer an install for the following Tuesday. I replied on the Friday and agreed to this.

They came yesterday and installed our new Absolute Black granite worktops; very pleasant. They arrived at around 12pm and stayed on until just before 7pm to get it finished (after having travelled down from Manchester too; plus having to work on when all we had were workman's lamps!). We did not have to pay anything until we were happy with the install, which we were.

They did approx 4.7m squared of granite worktops with bevelled edges, upstands along the back of all the worktops (with a 600mm gap above the hob for splashback), polished undermount 1 1/2 bowl sink cut-out (and mounted the sink), drainage grooves, tap hole, hob cut-out and sealed them all for £1,350. Just been over there today to see it in natural daylight (since was by house light when they left yesterday). Looks good! Very happy and very reasonable!!

Would now very much recommend granitefitters.co.uk :money:
  • Hi Claire,

Now that it's a couple of months later, do you have a follow-up on this?
I.e. How is it all fairing under normal daily use?

I ask as I'm looking at having granite fitted and got a quote from this company which is very competitive.

Any help would be gratefully received.
