i want to increase my RAM from 256-512+.
all i know is i can buy memory boards for this.
i need to know a bit more so am asking for help.
will any old memory card do?
is it just a case of slotting it in a spare slot?
do i have to "activate" it some how?
are they just "plug and play" things?

You need to buy the memory approprate to your PC.
Once fitted the PC will recognise it and you are done.
Best way to find out what you need is by using a memory adviser tool like the one at Crucial
