Car BREAKS changed (Front two) But they are now soft?

I changed both pairs of the front 2 car breaks, and these new brakes feel soft.

when you press them hard/fast it takes a bit of time for the car to break (there is a small delay)...then the car Halts.

Shouldnt it be instant, and forced stopped, on application on the NEW brake pads?

or is this Always the case, with new brakes? (slight delay on pressure) ?

Don't brake pads need to "bed in"?

When you replaced the pads, did you clean the pins and slides? Are you confident that you didn't disturb the hydraulics or force the pistons back too quickly? Have the car checked over by a professional, if your not sure, brakes are too important to make mistakes with.
  • if the pedal is soft, and delayed in stopping your vehicle could quite possibly air in the brake lines. get it to the garage for testing.

True, but unless the OP is a very bad mechanic, air should not get in the lines simply by changing break pads - unless the whole piston came out by accident.

You`ll find the brakes may be a bit "vague" for the first few times you go for a drive until they are "bedded in". Most suppliers suggest 100miles bedding in period.

As someone else said, you should ensure the slides are clear and free from dirt so the pads can move freely onto the discs.

I am not a mechanic lol, somebody else did them (a mechanic), but the piston didnt come out.

They did a pad change, nothing else.

  • IF THEY DIDNT CHANGE THE DISCS I WOULD JUST DRIVE FOR 200 MILES OR SO AND SEE IF THEY BED IN THEY SHOULD HAVE BLED THEM ALL THE SAME

basically if you discs have small groves in or are mishaped in anyway the old pads would have matched them and it will take a while for the new pads to fit tightly against them

sorry for the caps lock i forgot it was on and couldnt be bothered to type it again although i probably good have done by the time i have explained my self here

Well..... in the same way that people say you should leave early rather than driving at 70mph on a motorway, I think you should just drive slower and brake much earlier :)

Get someone to look at it properly, but they do need time to bed in!!

    Have you got ABS?
When you pushed the pistons back, did you crack open the bleed nipples, or did you push the fluid back into the reservoir?
