No protection under Section 75

I am trying to get a refund for the cost of my son's college fees after the college collapsed. I have tried this under Section 75, as it seems to me to meet all the criteria. However, the cc company says "no" because my son signed the paperwork with the college, even though I paid for it all on my card. I am told it is all to do with the "debtor-creditor-supplier chain". If this is the case, anything bought for someone else is not covered. Has anyone come across this before? It seems completely contrary to the spirit of the Act.

Looking at the MSE Section 75 refunds article, in the section headed Are group purchases protected, it's possible that a complaint to the FOS might be upheld since the "purchase" was for close family.
The FOS is a free service so worth a try. See the FOS page "credit cards - equal liability under section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act 1974" for more info.Warning: In the kingdom of the blind, the one-eyed man is king.
