Gartmore ESO & rest of the funds out there

Hi
My Gartmore ESO isa fund is pretty feeble and on checking a table of yearly returns only came out with 4% for the year.

http://lt.morningstar.com/9dnt0a0rp5/fundquickrank/default.aspx
Having sorted all funds by 1 yr return, the top came back with over 47% returns (unless Im reading it wrong).. is this right?

What should I look into before looking to move my isa fund? .. admin fees.. ??

Thanks,
RichT

74/106 sector over 1 year. Top fund returned 24%.

Change of manager one year ago.
  • Does the 'E' stand for European?

If so, surely this accounts for the miserable performance?

Yes.. euro selected opportunities. So you'd suggest keeping off european based funds then?

  • Not necessarily.

GESO is 78/115 over 1 year and 37/115 over 3 years.

Short term maybe a bit below average buy not a write off given the ructions at Gartmore.

The better European funds (not Gartmore) have done at least as well as the much publicised China funds over 1 & 3 years so it's hardly a disaster area.

I'm keeping a few bob in that area.

I'm not necessarily saying that - because it's a crystal ball job.

All I know is (same as everyone else) Europe has had a hard time of late. Greece. Ireland? Ring any bells? Predictions for Portugal Italy and Spain still abound. Germany thumping the tub never to bail anyone out again. Ireland printing its own money.

It would explain the low growth (of late) alluded to here.
