Not sure if this is the right place to post but been trying to txt someone in thailand from my phone but they are not getting them and also another person i know has tried but no luck.
I have heard of places or numbers you can call up and they let you call overseas for very cheap like 2p min etc how safe are they?and who is the best for this and how does it work?i would hate to use one of them and find my bill is very high cause it did not work,I would be calling a mobile number.
And also i am confused as i have read online when you txt or call i have found different codes +66 066 0668 what is the right code to use

The international code for Thailand is 0066.
Are you calling a Thai mobile number, or a UK mobile number roaming in Thailand? No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
It is very cheap to call a Thai mobile from a BT landline - see HERE.
Thai mobile numbers are ten digits long (including the mobile code 08) BUT, as with all other Thai numbers, the leading 0 of the code has to be omitted when dialling from overseas. Hence to call a Thai mobile from the UK, the dial string must start 00 66 8 followed by the remaining eight digits of the Thai mobile phone being called.
BTW, the first stop when looking for cheap overseas rates should always be the MSE International CallChecker.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Then you don't dial the Thailand code-you just dial the normal UK number!
It will cost you the same as ringing that phone in the UK-the person you are calling pays the roaming charges. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

Not looked at call checker so you say i just call the normal uk number no codes nothing?and if i call them its just the same price as me calliing them if they was in uk?dont they get charged roaming?if so what would this be?i am t mobile and they are vodaphone?
Would be be best to call from a home phone or from mobile to mobile? Also i missed a call the other day from them where i think they called from there mobile to my mobile do i get charged roaming for that?it was left on my answer phone but if i had answered i would have been charged also.
I am sure mobile networks chilled down a bit when it came to roaming etc need to be sure what way is good and what way is way expensive when i am calling them and them to me.Treat everyday as your last one on earth! and one day you will be right.0 -
i checked the call checker and some of the prices look ok,dont know how good some of them are etc but when it says to pick a thailand mobile or landline is this for example a thailand phone with sim card or could this be a uk phone with uk some card?if i used my home phone the prices you see on that site would be it?and there would nothing extra or no expense to them at there end, just need to try and work out which is best way for me to contact them which will not cost any of us too much.
And as i said in my last message if i am going to which is more than likely call there uk mobile with uk sim in it is there a code i need to use so i can get hold of them or just call there number as normalTreat everyday as your last one on earth! and one day you will be right.0 -
It's as macman says. Just call/text it like you would if it was in the UK. It is the recipient who will get hit with the roaming charges, so might not be too thrilled at receiving a load of messages!
Much better for them to get a local SIM if staying there any length of time and for you then to look at cheap international calls.
Edit:
I don't think it costs them to reveive a text abroad, but to receive a call is 75p/min on Vodafone PAYG SIMs.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. Texts are free to receive wherever you are.
If they are using a UK SIM in Thailand, then yes they will get the roaming charges for calls. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
