I hate BT

Options
Got to get this off my chest.
I am / was with Talk Talk. Every month for the past 14 months I got a letter from Talk Talk explaining that someone was taking over the supply of my phone line. I called Talk Talk every month and said NO and they cancelled this operation. Now it seems anyone can just take over your supply (it's called 'slamming') without any authority from me. Fed up with the monthly letters I contacted Ofcom who said that nothing could be done and I should just keep cancelling. At this point, after 10 months of letters, noone could tell me who the mystery supplier was who wanted my line. Then in November 2010 I missed a letter and the inevitable happened, the mystery supplier took over my line.Middle of December I did see the letter and called Talk Talk for the usual chat but too late, they were no longer my supplier. So who was? I was told to call 150, a number that connects straight to my supplier and there they were, BT!!!!!
But BT denied I was with them, an instant lie. At this point I still had a line with calls but no broadband so contacted Ofcom again. They promised to look into it and made an official request to find my supplier. Mid December I went on holiday. When I came back I had no phone, I'd been cut off. I called Ofcom (from a mobile) and was told it was BT who had stolen my line but as soon as they took over the supply of my service they just cut me off, no explanation why. Ofcom seem to think that they wanted the cable / line rather than supply me.
So it is now late January and I've got a date of mid February before anyone can reconnect me. BT still deny stealing my line.
Only good thing is I can claim compensation, and I will, from BT.
There I feel better now.

I know how you feel, I hate them too!!

The same sort of thing has happened to me just before Christmas. I have line rental with BT and have call plan with Sky. I changed some features to my BT online account and have been slammed so my call plan is now with BT done without my permission. BT have agreed that I did not ask them to do this but Sky are still trying to get my call plan back with them. I found out about this on 23 December last year and have just been told on Saturday that BT have slammed my call plan again. The two companies say that they can't stop this from happening, but I have not given anyone from BT permission to do this. Sky keep trying to order my call plan back to them and I am given a date for activation but then it gets cancelled. I have asked how this can be stopped and have been told it can't because there isn't anything in the Ofcom regulations to let the customer stop this from happening. I can now only make calls at the weekend as that is the plan that is with my line rental with BT, in the week I will be charged the full cost of calls. Who helped you to sort this out, I would be glad of some advice. Did you go through Otelo? Glad you getting compensation but it does not really make up for the disruption and inconvenience.

    I love BT.

Free evening and weekend calls and then use 1899 for any daytime calls I need to make.
There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.
  • I love them as well, no problems, excellent service

As for a short period with NTL, nothing compares.

You have my deepest sympathy. The only company I have encountered worse than BT is nPower. Both of these showers offer 'customer service; so inadequate, IME, that their directors should be held personally liable at law.

    Caterpillar.
UPDATE. My reconection date has been put back to 28th Feb. Talking to BT or Open Reach is like asking my cat the time. Noises come back but no sense.
Talk to Ofcom, they are very helpful. They will give you the address to send a claim to ay BT. In your case claim for inconvienience plus of course claim back all call expenses.
  • Thank you for your reply. Sorry your reconnection is taking so long, I am very angry with BT but your situation has gone on for longer than mine so I can understand how you must feel. My calls should be back from BT to Sky today. I then plan to take my line rental away from BT and go with one provider for everything. BT have credited my account by £16 to cover any calls made since 24/12/10 and one month line rental. BT emailed a survey for me to complete last week so told them what I thought about what they had done without my permission. I will be contacting Ofcom as I don't want this to happen to me again, or anyone else, they need to change the regualtions that are in place. I don't think £16 makes up for the inconvenience caused by BT. Sky made a few errors processing the re-instation of my call plan and to compensate for their mistakes they gave me a free Sky HD+ recorder which I have been told are only given to new Sky customers, so I am pleased about this. Good luck for the 28th.
