Potholes caused house to vibrate lost sleep

Hi, I live on a busy central London road with lots of buses so there is a lot of traffic noise and some vibration. The road was extensively retarmaced last year and over the last 2 months I noticed severe vibration every time buses passed along which is about every 2 minutes. I'm talking about my bed shaking through the night. It was awful.
Eventually I figured out it was due to 2 large, deep potholes. The Council filled these fairly promptly although I had to report the matter 3 times. Interestingly they did not respond directly to me even though they said they would as a matter of course.
Do you know whether I am entitled to any compensation for loss of sleep and distress without suing them through the county court?
Now I realise they are not particularly negligent in respect of repairing the fault fairly quickly, but I feel that the road was not built properly in the first place and anyway they are responsbile for damages that arise.
