Can anyone help a PC novice?
Have had NO SOUND thru PC for over a week. Mistakenly wiped sound program using W2k ADD/REMOVE system.
Have been advised (elsewhere here) to d/load REALTEK audio driver (as most common driver) but after 1hr 20 min d/l complete but tried to open and got;
"corrupted; download again"!!!!
Had PC made by someone 2004 and no longer in touch so cannot get advice there plus do not believe I received any driver cdRoms etc.
Am not sure how to find out if there is a Back Up somewhere on my system that might allow me to re-install components.
Have tried Windows search for updates but they state "cannot detect".
If I could find out which sound driver I have then maybe I could just go to their site and d/l the relevant but cannot find this at the moment though looked in the System Info section. There is a long list in Software Environment; Drivers and ALL are shown as "OK".
Am I looking in the right place??
My system info also has a menu title PROBLEM DEVICES and this shows one component;
Multimedia Audio Controller PCI\VEN_1106&DEV_3059&SUBSYS_97611849&REV_60\3&61AAA01&0&8D 22
Could this be the problem re No sound then and how to correct it? Did google on the above and only found some US military PC help forum and didn't help me (tho God Bless Americow).
Have ASUSTEK dvd/cd rom drives, and play mp3s on winamp. If that might help in finding a solution.
Can anyone advise....it's so quiet here now.........

Are any of these the ones I need to d/l a driver for to return sound to PC?

Sorry to be labouring this but very puzzled.
D/Ld Cmedia-042 (1hr 55 mins) and unzipped using Winzip Wizard but now have Cmedia folder and not sure how to install/align to my audio device.
When I right click to OPEN this folder nothing happens. When I double click I get a LONG list of 'stuff'and not sure if I need to double click on something there.
Can anyone help with the next step.
Use Win2k.
Much appreciated.
(Wonder if there is some basic advice/tutorial site so I might 'learn to fish myself').0 -
There's normally a setup.exe to install the program/drivers. Try double-clicking that.0

GREATEST THANKS to the kind helpers who have restored my 'hearing'!
Use PC for cd/dvd/radio so have been stumped for 12 days (especially when F4/Bisc*hit denied 'paid for net access' for weeks; so couldn't even cry for help) and what joy to have my essential services resumed!
Shame am so dumb and cannot repay via sharing my (limited) knowledge (just film/music/arts trivia....surely everyone has enough of that).
Now to read the Back Up threads to prevent me getting into the same bother in future.
