Don't forget she has a cooling off period where the new contract can be terminated. Be worth checking what tariff she has gone on as there are some shockers out there at the mo.

I have found the polite versions of 'no cold callers' signs no longer work. It seems that salesreps think they have a better chance of success as others have been put off by the sign. The conversation now seems to start with the words 'I know you have a sign up but ....'

As a postie I have seen some really good to the point ones that have been homemade. They make it fairly plain what will happen with the cold callers clipboard/bible mag/cleaning catalogue.

Too late I'm afraid. Would the company tell me if I rang? Good point re the sign, some are very pushy.

As far as I know it is illegal for a cold-calling phone seller to call people over 80...sounds mad but my mum sorted this for my Nan and it worked.

How would a phone cold caller be expected to know if the person being called is over 80?

I've just discovered she has switched energy supplier as a result of a sales rep calling. ... However, she has always been adamant about staying with the 'Electricity Board', so she is obviously more easily persuaded now.

Was she aware at the time that she made the decision that she wasn't staying with "the Electricity Board"? The rep may have claimed to be from the board and there to "check that she was on the best tariff".

To be very blunt, it's mostly older people who stick up a sign saying 'no cold callers' which is visible to cold callers. Who take no notice of it, and it flags up to them that the resident may be an older person and more susceptible to their speil.
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

Seems that the jury is out on the usefulness of the signs. I rang the supplier and asked them if they have a policy on cold calling elderly folk and they don't.

I saw a good one the other day; it was handwritten, and read

    "If you're selling

    Life Insurance
    Double Glazing
    Cavity Wall Insulation
    Roof Coatings
    Electricity or Gas
    Cable TV
    etc
    etc
    etc
    etc
    etc

    then F_CK OFF"

Couple that with a big "Beware of the Dog" sign, and I think that'll do th trick.

its not illegal at all they can apply to the tps that can stop the majority of cold calls but it has no legal standing

I find that saying over the phone, I am registered with TPS does work. As for cold calling at the door, I'm surprised there is no legislation. Am I right in thinking that if the postman should ever deliver before 7.00 a.m., that is considered trespass? If I'm right, and it is a hazy memory, then surely it cannot be right for cold callers to darken your doorstep willy-nilly. It's not so much brochures I hate, it's people who knock after 7.00 p.m. In the distant past, there have been cold callers who have come through the back garden to the back door and stuck their foot in the door when I opened, mistakenly thinking it was OH home from work. It's put me off them for life. I hate the way, that if you are polite, it's a invite for them to keep on with their spiel and you virtually have to shut the door in their face to get rid of them.
