Oil change on 2003 seat ibiza 12v

This may sound like a daft question, but im about to do an oil change on my 2003 Seat Ibiza 1.2 12v, but i cant find the oil filter anywhere! I have trailed the internet and can't find anything to tell me where it is! Does anyone know where it is, I got my dad to have a look and he wasnt able to find it, he changed my mums 2002 seat ibiza no problem.

but i heard somewhere (dont know if its true) that volkswagen/seat merged in 2003 so the seat ibiza is alot like the polo and has lots of volkswagen parts amongst seat parts.

Can anyone please help?

I have no idea.. but have you checked under the wheel arch?

I didnt, although when dad was looking for it, he said he saw something that looked like an oil filter at my wheel arch, but he didnt think it was right so he didnt want to try to change it incase he made a mess of it!

But my friends boyfriend, suggested it might be there too. I will check when i get home from work!

    Thanks
  • Some engines now use a cartridge type filter element unlike the usual spin on/off type. From what I've seen on 3 cyl 12v Corsa and smaller Peugeot Diesels its under a black plastic domed screw off cover with a hexagon on the end to facilitate removal/refitting. I looked for it on my daughter's Corsa and didn't realise it was under said plastic cover!!
Or am I talking rubbish and you've bought the new filter, it's a spin on type and just can't see where it goes?

  • If its like my 2004 Polo , could be located highup in the centre- front under bonnet near rad.Looks like black plastic domed screw off cover with a hexagon on the end to facilitate removal/refitting.

I'm going to play devil's advocate here: if the filter is that difficult to locate, it is likely to be (like a lot of modern cars) just this side of impossible to get at and work on, once the engine is installed in the car. Why not take it along to your local branch of National Tyres and let them wrestle with it for £15 or £20?
