We have a week off in early Feb a budget of £2000 ( two adults) and want some sun but cannot travel too far so are looking at Tenerife or Cyprus - Spa or tennis would be good to have on site.
any preferences or suggestions?
thanks

Personally having been to both my vote would be for Cyprus. It will be chilly after sunset though.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

As Spiro says in Cyprus in February once the sun goes down it will be a bit chilly.
February is also one of the most variable months regarding rainfall; you might see none or it might rain every day. Typically the localised weather systems mean that there will be three or four dry and sunny days followed by a slightly shorter run of cloudy and wet days. According to the data for the last 15 years the island has around seven wet days in February.
If you do decide on Cyprus then you'd probably get a decent deal on one of the big hotels with facilities such as a spa, tennis courts and indoor pools. I had an email from one of the biggies last week with special offers, through to the end of March, on rooms as well as tennis coaching, golf and spas.
Aphrodite Hills would be worth a look, as would the Elysium in Paphos.
Happy planning,

Having been to both I would choose Cyprus in February rather than Tenerife at any time of year. IMO Cyprus is much nicer all round though not everyone will agree of course as we all have different tastes.0

Tourism in Cyprus isn't in the best of health.
Too many AI establishments, therefore locally owned hotels, restaurants and associated businesses are suffering big time.
The mentality to get around lack of tourist numbers is to put prices up!
In Paphos for example the main tourist night spots are along Bar Street.
During February you'll be lucky if you find more than 3 or 4 bars open.
If you choose somewhere in Cyprus then make sure that airport transfers are included, or that you pick up a hire car at the airport. Why? The taxi m*fia will fleece you!
That lot said, if you hire a car, and venture inland you will be rewarded.0 -
Been to both places and in my opinion it would have to be Tenerife by a long way.0

I've been to both and my vote is for Cyprus0

I think Pompeypete is right. Cyprus in the low season has really suffered since the introduction of the euro and a lot of restaurants have closed. My own preference would be for neither. I would go to Madeira. Plenty of good hotels and spectacular scenery and walking.0

The weather is more likely to be better in Tenerife in February ie. less rainfall and more sunny days, but of course this cannot be guaranteed0
