How to trace ex tenant

Hi,
my son normally lives abroad and rents out his flat. He has not had a good agent and his tenant has know done a flit leaving unpaid rent and bills of 1000 pound. The forwarding addresses are having letters returned as unknown.
Is there any way he can trace this chap and get his money back without having to shell out a lot of money? He is a student and doesnt have large amounts of savings.
We have heard you can go to a small claims court, but how can he find out where this chap is?
Any advice greatly appreciated
Pam

The tenant was a student?
Did he have a guarantor when he signed his tenancy?
Tracing agencies can be used, no idea on the cost. You could find him and if he has no money may end up paying back £5 a week.0 -
What bills are we talking about, and how much rent is actually owed ?0

your son should not be liable for utility bills, council tax etc owed by the tenant.0

sorry to bring up old thread. i thought it would be more appropriate. esepcially for any mse's who search for same in future.
i want to trace an old tenant. can anyone recommend no-find-no-fee companies? also what do you pay for. as in what form / proof do they send you. does it have person name now address, previous address, previous address etc DOB or what? if i show in court what information would it contain? what info do i need to give to company so they can find tenant?
thanksMartin you rock:j:j:j0 -
Facebook is a good place to start. You could probably find them yourself. See how open or private their profile is and then decide if you need to employ anyone to do it or not.0

Only muppets, the deluded and kids use facebook.
As a long shot use www.192.com Try finding yourself there as a test.
Consider the cost of a Magnum P.I
It may be cheaper and easier on your part & heart, to forget em and move on and just accept the loss.0 -
If he knows what the person looks like it will be easier to find him than 192.com - which needs you to search a specific area. That can be difficult if part of the problem is tracing where they are.0

Facebook has over 25 million UK users and 1 in 13 people in the world use it. That's a lot of muppets and kids.0 -
