Banking error in my favour

google the company name and see what comes up.
this happened to me, about three years ago, with portman building society. i went to see what i could draw out of my account with the little book. (waiting for a payment to go in) and they said there was £20 in there, 'but the cheque wouldnt clear until thursday', i said 'what cheque??' i hadnt paid a cheque in and i queried it there and then. they looked at the screeen and said it was definately mine, but had been paid into my account without my book.
however, i did the decent thing and waited and waited and waited. for about 3 or 4 months I waited, nobody chased me, and thought they would have after all that time, so i spent it. it wasnt a lot. less than £200. and it wasnt until something like almost a year after i had first queried it, that they phoned me and said they wanted their money back. someone on the desk had clearly made an error, most probably not closing down the screen after i had been in the week previously, and person behind me had their transaction entered on my page.. so i worried myself silly, the lady in the local office was an absolute nightmare and wanted it paid back at a riduclous amount a week, (im on pension credit and it was going to be impossible) so i went to the CAB, who dug out lots of paperwork indicating that as it was their mistake and i HAD queried it, i probably wouldnt have to pay it back, then i went to portman head office, and after much deliberation, especially as i HAD queried it on the day in the first place, (i also made a complaint about the lady in the local office), they wrote it off. the head office couldnt have been nicer.0 -

You win some, loose some.
How many times have the bank made an error not in your favour and you haven't caught up on it!0
