Can anyone tell me what is normal processing time for HB claim?

    There must be some guidelines......

Ask for an interim HB payment. A council is obliged to give you one after 2 weeks, if you've submitted all the correct info, and its just that they haven't got around to processing it.

As an aside, I read somewhere recently (probably on this forum) that someone was called in by the fraud department and were asked to explain the deposits put into their account. They then told the them that these deposits were the housing benefit....doh.
  • Thanks for posting - emailed the HB "officer" last night and pointed to her it was almost 12 weeks since I have submitted my claim, she has not replied to my previous 2 emails and asking what is going on as all delays were caused on their not my side.

Got an email back this morning saying that my claim has been processed and I should wait for the letter - did not say what the outcome was.

Had another email back from the rent office (copied them on my email) saying that all has been backdated and all sorted now.

The Housing Officer did not say anything about what the outcome was, rent office let me know...

So all sorted now but the atitude was just awful...

Thanks for all replies, very much appreciated

To be honest the letters that get sent out have to be like that because it has to be made 100% clear on what the person needs to provide and what will happen if they don't provide it. If we don't tell them this information it will lead to a complaint. It can be very difficult to get people to provide information. :(
