HELP!!! Trojan and backdoor virus on my pc

    I'm saving photos onto disc right now and am going to have them developed. Everything else can go. I'll be using the recovery disc and returning my comp to as it was new with the recovery disk.

    Once I have done this, will I be virus free?
    Can the evil person who has done this look at past purchases and online banking? I haven't used my pc for any of this since the virus happened.

    Ok, I've run the recovery disk and I thought that the comp would go back to as new with everything wiped off. But I still have everything saved on my pc; files, folders, programs, drivers... everything, including my web history.
    The only things that are different (that I can see) are the wallpaper and the the pinned things on the start up have changed.
    I seems like everything has been copied which makes me scared the virus has been copied too. Any ideas?

    Sounds like your recovery disc is simply an operating repair disc

    In which case id suggest running hijack this as per post #2 (And updating and running another scan with malwarebytes if its not up to date)

    My recovery disc says 'Recovery Disc. The software included on this Recovery Disc was preinstalled on your hard drive at the factory and may only be used for backup.'
    Is this a true recovery disc or an operating repair disc?

    I can't get Hijack This to work. When I click on DO A SYSTEM SCAN AND SAVE A LOGFILE a box pops up saying 'For some reason your system denied write access to the Hosts file. If any hijacked domains are in this file, HijackThis may NOT be able to fix this.'
    And it tells me I need to edit the file myself and how to do this. I did have a go but nothing seems to have changed: still getting the same message.

    I just had a thought about the Windows window that popped up which alerted me about the viruses (see original post). When my nephew clicked on the photo, I have just realised, this Windows window was within Internet Explorer not my computer. And when I clicked to close this, what looked like my computer but I now realise was a website, a window would pop up asking if I wanted to move away from this website because it was a threat. And while I was on the screen with all the virus warnings, if I clicked to go somewhere else, a box would pop up asking if I wanted to download a file from a website I've never heard of. I've also just realised the logo of my C drive doesn't look like the one that was shown.
    Do you think this is a very cruel joke? I mean, if it was a backdoor virus and I am correct that what was on my screen was indeed a website, why would this evil person advertise the backdoor virus? Isn't that the point of being a backdoor, is not to be detected? I immediately ran a full scan with AVG which found 1 malware.
    Am I just hoping this is the case?

    Would taking my comp to the TechGuys at PCWorld be a good option as they do virus and spyware removal? I'm very prepared to have my whole system wiped and reinstall if they want to do that too.

    I wouldn't you'll be back on here in next to no time. Wait till rik gunjack browntoa or others have a look at the hjt.
