Co-op Motor Insurance (Not Impressed)

Options
Hey guys.

Just a moan. I have car insurance with the cooperative they insure my car and have done now for two years however with the weather and the condition of the roads I decided to use an old car of mine to protect the bodywork and condition of my Merc which is my pride and joy :D.

So I called the Insurance company and asked for my Merc to be taken off the the insurance and replaced with my old mark 3 golf which according to the CSA was not a problem. Easy enough I thought so as you would I started using the Golf as my everyday car.

A week and a Half went by and I noticed in my bank Coop had refunded £14.33 so I decided to call up and quiery the refund and they then replied Thats the refund for the merc insurance for two months. I found this sum very low for two months as my insurance was £400 for the year which by my calculation is £33 approx a month however that was not my main worry. I then asked about the Golf Insurance the reply I got horrified me.

You no longer have any valid insurance with us.

The Girl I originally spoke to cancelled my insurance refunded me my 2 months minus the cancellation charge and didn't insure the golf, What if I had been caught or worse been in an accident and someone was killed god forbid I am really angry with this mistake which could have been very costly.

Thanks for reading guys.

  • That's terrible!

It's a good idea to periodically check you are insured.

You can do it quickly and free here:

But it can take a few days to update!
  • What the hell?! What an idiot, I would be furious. Have you complained? What happens now?

Go back to them, explain everything, she has not done her job properly.
I have been with the coop years and have had at least 8 cars insured with them and its always been seemless when
i have changed my cars mid term, they just change the details and the insurance and dd is adjusted until the end of the
    original policy.

She is in the wrong and has obviously not been trained properly.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
  • I had them put the Golf on immediatly so I can commute to work I am still considering what to write in my letter of complaint, I would like my cancellation charge returned to me as it was wrongly charged. I don't really know how to go forward with this complaint no doubt if I write they will just give me the standard "were sorry" letter which I don't think cuts it.

What would use guys do about this scenario I don't like making formal complaints as no one is perfect i.e CSA agent but this is not like forgetting to send me a letter I mean If the Police had Fined me £500 would the Co-op have paid this ?.

I normally find the Co-op Service very good.

Definitely make a formal complaint. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Ring the coop anonymously, ask them what would happen if yu wanted to change your car mid term and what would happen insurance wise.

I bet yu get a completely different answer if you get someone who actually knows what they are talking about and I
have always found the staff to be very good.
Good luck and let us know how you get on.

  • Update guys.

I spoke to a young girl at Customer Relations, She kept stressing they could not be held liable for this mistake but they would offer me my cancellation charge back... Thats nice of them. They also offered as a goodwill gesture of £40 which I accepted as I didn't really want to cause a fuss but I think if I get the chance of even a slightly cheaper deal I will be off in the summer (Think with my feet.).

    Cheers guys.
