Bank Account that does not charge??

Hi, my first ever post (so be gentle with me)

My dad has just opened his first ever bank account with RBS, the only bank in the small village where he lives.

He only wants a basic bank account, with cheque book facilities. he is getting charged every month for this, the account has added extras that he will not use. The nearest bank to this one is 15 miles away in the next town, which is not very accessable.

Can any one advise on rbs bank accounts, or how we can get round these charges.

RBS offer other accounts with no monthly fee.

For instance there is a Interest Paying Current Account and a Key Account (which is their version of a 'basic bank' account)

Your father should contact RBS to change accounts etc.

Otherwise, there are other banks your father could open an account with and pay money in/withdraw money via a post office instead. There are some details of this here
