Part of the Furniture 10,000 Posts Name Dropper I've been Money Tipped!
I think it is good that they are following up on people who have been receiving IB for a long time, I mean that shouldn't really happen.

I am just miffed that my OH has only been getting ESA for four months, is no better and now has to fill in the form again.
Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time

They did the same on IB, its a myth they didnt bother to check up on people, they called me in for another medical 3 months after I proved my case at tribunal....

Basically, if she gets ESA again, then another letter/medical a few months later, and the process will continue until either (by law of probability) you lose, or you get better, or simply give up because you cannot cope with it anymore.
[greenhighlight]but it matters when the most senior politician in the land is happy to use language and examples that are simply not true.

The impact of this is to stigmatise people on benefits,
and we should be deeply worried about that

I was left 10 years before 1st follow up ie an IB50 filled that in got letter saying next review in 5 years after 2 I sent them the paper work showing I am exempt medicals but that all ends as under the regs for ESA I dont think I will get it asked DWP if I will get ESA and they say dont know :D

Yes you are right. However, if you look at the number of people claiming some sort of disability/illness/sickness benefit in Britain, I think most would have to admit that there is something woefully wrong.

I cannot believe that those people are ALL sick or disabled and unable to work. If that is the case, is there something wrong with the water that we drink?

This country cannot afford to keep on supporting the current level never mind the increasing numbers that seem to be popping up every year.
Something has to be done. Whether I agree that ESA is the right way is something I don't want to get involved in - it is all political!!

All I will say is thank goodness I am not young anymore having to cope with the aftermath of the benefits being changed.

Cant wait until 2014 when I will get my OAP and leave ESA/IB behind! At least THAT benefit is protected and will increase in real terms every year.
Got another medical this year so hoping to stay in the Support Group until then. Otherwise I am likely to be kicked off when the 12 month limit comes in.

are you on IB ? if so a good chance your next medical wont happen and your left where you are till you go onto OAP .. the magic date is people who reach state pension age before 6 April 2014

I agree many wont be sick but as the only pace I meet others getting IB are in clinics for strokes and at cancer hospital its hard to judge

I was called in for my medical last March and received 0 points - I am fighting breast cancer for 2nd time, plus have lymphoedaema and a few other problems. I then went to CAB and saw a McMillan Nurse who did the same test and received 24 points from her - and she was particularly strict. I have sent an appeal in and have since been awaiting a date - should have been last August - so my payments stopped in March and have now contacted my local MP who has written to the Appeal Office asking for my case to be expedited. All very stressful and very upsetting. Have now taken the view I won't win although my CAB Rep say I definately will. Has anyone else gone through the appeal and could they let me know how it went and what I should be expecting? Have also got letters from my GP, Consultant and an independent Dr backing my appeal but not sure if they will help much. Thanks for any help.

So sorry to hear that. No, I haven't been to any appeal hearings, though my wife had one 12 months ago for AA. It was quite easy, you just send in your evidence and comments and they write back saying if you have won or not.

My wife failed as they seem to now say that you should change your house round, use a commode downstairs etc and get a stairlift. Get those done and all her problems would be sorted.
Who has to pay for all of the alterations, we do.
