Partners claims for me but i don't seem to exist

Partner claims for me, rightly so we live together as a couple and have three children at home, 17,11 and 7.
Over the holidays i managed to get a part time job. Seems due to hours and pay we will still get benefits but only entitled to keep the first £20 and any over paid back pound for pound. That's fair enough however, because he gets the benefit we aren't entitled to any help if i go full time. Seems it has to be my partner who gets the job to get any help with going back to work.
My job is now being re advertised due to not being advertised in the first place, they just rang and asked if i could fill in and get paid for doing so, however i don't think i can reapply as the hours are longer to cover the dinner hour and this makes the total hours 21 and 40 mins.Would we get any help?
I have phoned the income support they said cause i am the partner i can work 24 hrs but ctc say its only 16 hrs.
We get, income support, child tax credits and housing benefits.

You should be eligible for working tax credits as you'll be working over 16 hours and have children. This plus your earnings would certainly wipe out your IS because income would be too high. You'll probably still get HB but reduced. You shouldn't be worse off.
Note that from 2012 (I think*) couples have to work 24 hours to get WTC.
* the spending review announced this but doesn't say when it will happen, but the cost figures imply 2012.0
