Brazil or Mexico

I will probably go next year now, I was worried having to look over my shoulder all the time... but reading many reviews its a lovely place/holiday, just like anywhere you have to be careful, I am off to the maldives instead now ( great price)
for brazil I was going to pay £1300 for 2 adults and 1 child age 3 AI hotel on the beach looked lovely, that was with thomson's also if I remember rightly portland-direct (sister company) had it £100 cheaper plus is codes about for thomsons £100 off...
