No change in 10 years would mean a 50% loss in purchasing power, are you sure your wages have not gone up in 10 years ;)

Sadly true. Why do you think I'm so mean?

This sort of extrapolation is compiled by the same sort of journalist that has a plumber in to fix his heating, gets a bill for £60 and works out that the plumber is earning £60 a hour 35 days a week 50 weeks a year and therefore every plumber earns £105,000 per year as a result.

It's a nonsence piece of journalism on what must be a slow news day.

Like I said before, a friends kid has grown half every year for the past 4. By the time he's 25, he'll be nearly 13ft tall!

I think the major problem is that the vast majority of people simply so not appreciate the difference between a short and long term trend. In the long term, prices will continue to rise. I have little doubt of this. But that does not exclude that prices could drop 20% in the next 6 months. Compared to 5 years ago, the growing long term trend would still be intact.
    2 + 2 = 4
except for the general public when it can mean whatever they want it to.
  • The thought of Million pound starter homes by 2024 is up there with Snow White & the seven Dwarfes & other fantasy Fairy-tales.

As a Picture can speak a thousand words, look at this graph to explain what it means!

I'll answer with this: Were's the money going to come from?, everyone's going to be a millionaire by 2024?, dont make me laugh!:rotfl:

BTW, it appears the writers of the article are assuming House price inflation of the last 10 years is going to continue at the same rate until 2024, It's rather Akin to a Perpetual Motion machine imo.
