renting a house...

Options
I am in the process of renting a house through an estate agent. I am currently through a private landlord and have been for almost four years, but I need a bigger place.

anyway my credit history hasnt been a greatest in the past, but for the past four years or so I have managed to get back on the credit ladder and paying as I should etc (although there are three defaults at my old address from almost four years ago - before I moved into current address).

So FCC Paragon are going to credit check me but only asked for three years address history (no bad credit at this address)...however, if I have a CCJ at an old address, will they check my linked address info (as per credit information) or not? and how far back should I search to check for CCJ's (I know they cant last longer than 6 years - or am I wrong?)

Any advice would be great

Thanks

  • Credit-records are attached to people not addresses. I believe that a credit-reference agency can see only defaults and CCj's and these remain on your file for six years.

so then why does the Registry Trust Limited advise you to check more than one address you have lived at?

I just read numerous posts on here that says even though it does not show up on a credit file, the only way to truly tell is to pay the registry trust to tell you if you do or not!
  • Gee, I dunno because I've never heard of them. Why don't you ask them?
  • Hi, a previous flat mate's friend seems to have charged his loans and credit cards tomy address as I get loads of letters from banks for him. I send them all back but they stil come in trickles. Will this affect my credit rating being I'm still at the flat (bn for over 4yrs) also how can I get them to stop writtig?
  • No, it won't affect your credit-record because as stated before records are attached to people and not properties.

If you really want these letters to stop arriving I suggest you open them and write back to the organisations telling them that the person they are trying to communicate with no longer resides at your address and any further correspondence will be disposed of. Give them the ex-flatmate's forwarding address or mobile phone number if you have them.

Just for future reference, should anyone search for FCC Paragon, they were very friendly and helpful. No problems at all with my credit check. They search call credit, and as they dont hold half as much data as Experian/Equifax then you shouldnt worry too much.
