Please help planning ferry/driving holiday to France

When I was a teenage daughter (one of two, with another two younger siblings), many years ago, we did something similar to what you're planning. We stayed in 2 places for 1 week each. I can't remember where the first one was, but the 2nd place was at Arcachon, near Bordeaux (as has been suggested by several people above). We had a ready-pitched tent on a campsite that had a lake as well as being near the sea. Loads of activities for kids, including watersports, and of course, beaches. The weather was perfect at that time of year. I remember while we were there we visited The Dune du Pyla, the biggest sand dune in Europe.

did you ever climb the Dunes....quite scary when you get up for the view...coming down is too quick also.(Hubby found it a doddle;))
