AHHH Post Office!!!!

Got my son to take some post to the PO. Most were UK but one was for Portugal.

Son got back home with the receipt - all standard UK 1st class... damn!!!

So they didn't check the address and just weighed it and put a 1st class stamp on it.

What will happen to that parcel now?

I have emailed the buyer and explained the situation. I said if the parcel doesn't arrive in 10 days, I'll issue a full refund and plus he can keep the parcel if it arrives any later.I know i have given him a reason to keep the item for free but i just can't do with a -ve...

Oh, poor you. :( Did you not say it was an overseas parcel? Did the counter staff not ask if all parcels were the same? Terribly annoying, I agree. :(

I guess it'll turn up with underpaid postage to pay. At least, it would in the UK. Not sure though. If it doesn't, then I guess it'll be returned to sender - did you put your address on the back?

I've never been asked the destination when posting something.

Quite honestly I think it's fair enough for the counter staff to assume that it's UK unless you say otherwise.

I can imagine people getting quite annoyed if every time they wanted to post something they were asked if it was for UK delivery, given that, probably, 99 times out of a hundred, it is.

It's possible there was enough postage on it. For certain weight ranges a surface small packet to Europe is cheaper than a first class inland packet.

    He could have been overcharged!!!
  • What does the receipt give the value for? You can work out how much the parcel cost if you know the cost/weight of the others.

First class stamps are the 'old version' of the new printed label, so they are sufficient to any country as long as the 'amount' adds up to the correct tariff.

Did the PO use stamps or preprinted self adhesive labels showing the price? If they used labels, this offers evidence that it was mispriced by the PO counter staff. If the buyer receives an excess postage charge, ask them to send a photo of the details, showing the PO adhesive label on the parcel.

Some time ago, a friend of mine got an excess charge for a packet that was sent underpriced, as a large letter. Because it had a PO adhesive label on, this offered evidence that it had been mispriced by the PO counter staff and the charge was either waived or refunded.

The original adhesive label will offer evidence that the PO counter staff underpriced, rather than your son - maybe this will help you.

    £1.72 i think. 310g

But when i checked on RM - it should be around £2.37

Just had a chat with the Post Master and he reckons it'll get there. I certainly hope so.

    Cheers for the response ALL
