We fought for a courtesy car and eventually got one last week but it has to be returned within 24 hours of getting told our car is being written off, which we believe it is after it was briefly looked at and told that we would need a new bumper and bonnet at least, and the car is over 8 years old now,and the cost of the work would be more than the car is worth
You can use any insurer for your new car.
(If you put your OH on the policy you will have to declare his claim under his details)
Have you looked at what the cost would be to repair the car yourselves using scrapyard parts and a back street garage? If viable you could buy the car back off your insurer, or even cancel the claim to retain your NCD/save your excess/not have to buy a new policy.0 -
NCB will be gone because of the TP claim but certainly worth looking into the idea of of keeping the salvage and a private repair0

.......Much in the same way that if an Emergency vehicle goes through a Red light at walking pace and all the cars see the vehicle and stop, then the Emergency vehicle passes through treating the red light as a giveway with all the lights and sirens going, but as they do so a car approaches the junction and doesn't realise the car in front is stationary and rear ends it, the emergency service vehicle is considered at fault in what is known as a "proximity accident".....
Are you seriously suggesting that if I stop to let an emergency vehicle through and the car behind runs into the back of me it’s somehow the fault of the emergency vehicle?
Sounds unlikely0 -

No matter how unlikely you may think it is, it is true.
Or do you tell your Dentist that it is unlikely you need a filling.
Obviously you know more about this as I have only working on frontline emergency Ambulances in London for a decade.
Why not ask a Policeman about a "Proximity Accident", when treating a red light as a give way when under blue light conditions.0 -

Struggling to see what dentists & fillings have to do with this but would like to read more about “proximity accidents” Google doesn’t come up with anything, have you got any links to actual law or cases?
Along the same lines, if I stop to let a bus (or even an ambulance) out of a side road and someone runs into the back of me is that the buses fault? How about if I stop because a child/OAP/dog is crossing the road?
I’d always thought that if you hit the back of something else it’s because you were driving too close or too fast or not paying attention and therefore it was your fault but I’m always pleased to learn something new.0 -

So did I, like you, I would be interested to find something substantive on the subject.0 -

hey sorry dude, it was the cops fault not mine we have to claim against them DID YOU CATCH THE REG NUMBER OR CAR ID NUMBER?
