Volunteer RSPCA maybe?

Options
Yet again i have had another sleepless night.

OK i am bored out of my skull. Yet another useless appointment at the doctors.

Back problem, With sciatica and also bowel and bladder issues.

Ive seen people double my age fitter than me.

I would love to work for the RSPCA, Animal Welfare Officer would be a lovely job.

As always there is a BUT. Due to my condition i wonder how i would cope with such a job and with my back and toilet issues would i be reliable enough to be able to perform set duties.

Thought about offering my time as a volunteer.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Currently claiming incapacity benefit which is topped up by income support. How will that be affected?

Thank you in advance.

All credit to you wanting to work, but an animal welfare officer is a very heavy duty job, involving a lot of driving, lifting and running about. It can also be heartbreaking and frustrating.

Have you got an RSPCA or other animal charity shop nearby where you could work a few hours that suited you as a volunteer?

Closest shop i know of is the other side of the city, I did spot a vacancy for a driver on their
website dropping stuff between shops. Only a couple of days a month.

Driving would depend on the vehicle, My car doesnt aggravate my condition, Mums VW Golf is awful.
I couldnt sit in that for more than 15 minutes. Lifting stuff daily could be a problem.

Would they even give me a chance with a known back condition?

Helping in the shop shouldnt be a problem? Why not ring round a few charity shops and ask.

I don't know where you are in the country, but there may be a wildlife rescue centre/hospital near you looking for volunteers.

    There's a list here http://www.animalrescuers.co.uk/html/wildcents.html

My husband volunteers at one. He goes out on animal rescues and works in the hospital, but there are a range of volunteer roles from admin and office work to releasing recovered patients, looking after smaller ones at home etc.

Might be worth contacting a centre near you and asking what they need doing that you think you'll be able to manage.

Just outside Birmingham near spaghetti junction. Not much wildlife here except the teenagers
and you wouldnt want to rescue them.

If you have admin skills why not see if they would like any help in that area? that way you could 'work' from home when your back isn't up to travelling.
    Meow!

(Not really a newbie, just wanted to share the rescue with you )

Admin from home, I didnt think of anything like that, I wouldnt have thought there would be much need/demand for that type of work.

Well im not daft, Lazy ,maybe. lol.

Computer, Phone skills etc. Not an issue, spelling is OK if my brain can keep up with my fingers.

Office work would bore me quickly, I am more a hands on person give me a task and leave me to it, I will keep going until its done.

Short attention span if its boring.

    Thanks.

Admin from home can be hard to find but it is out there. I found my role through www.do-it.org

With regards to benefits they are happy if you volunteer as long as you inform and keep them informed of all the relevant details. Such as role, hours and if you get any renumeration such as bus fares, lunch money.

Best of luck, let us know how you get on!
