Defaqto?

While making comparisons into pet and now car insurance quotes, I was directed to the Defaqto comparison/rating site. We have two cars, one insured with MMA, the other with Admiral (mainly beause my daughter is a named driver). Despite the excess being lower on the MMA policy and (on the surface at least), the cover appearing better, Defaqto gives my MMA policy only a 3 star rating against Admiral's 4. Is Defaqto a totally independent organisation or is it a vehicle for some companies to appear better than others, as seems to be the case with certain other, so called 'independent', comparison sites? I ask this because I am aware that MMA is regarded as a 'no frills' insurer, but also know that Admiral is not particularly held in high regard either.

I just compared two insurance policies (One for a company I worked for and know the policy very well... and the other for a company I just started but know about their private car policy) and can say that what is listed is exactly what the policies offer and isn't altered in any way... the only diff is that it says 'Loss of keys - not covered' on one policy when in fact it is... but the rest is correct so I'd say yes you could trust it.

The only problem with relying on Defaqto is that the Insurers know what Defaqto look for so they can tweek the relevant parts of the policy to get a good rating and leave the rest of the policy with poor cover.

Bear in mind that MMA are a company that generally look for ways to get out of paying a claim and their cover is relatively poor

Defaqto covers the main parts though
