How much for a new electrical double socket

Hi there,

We are getting a new boiler installed/moved to a new location and we need a new electrical socket put in under the stairs. The engineer is meant to be arranging for an electrician he knows to do the work. I've been chasing him for a price/estimate but nothing as yet.

We may end up having to get the socket sorted ourselves so I am wondering how much people think this should cost?

We need a pulg socket putting in under the stairs so may as well go with a double one. We have all the flooring up at present to it should not be too difficult to lift a few floorboards. The location is about 2 metres away from the main electrical cupboard/box. We do not need the socket sinking into the wall as will be out the way anyway.

Thanks

Do you have any spare ways on the fusebox?

not too sure. Are these the things that trip when something blows. The things that are labelled sockets up, lights up, sockets down etc...

Yep as if you have a spare you could run a cable from there to the socket, if not you could piggy back od a ring main socket (will I get flamed for this?)

It depends on a few things such as the age of your existing fuse board and whether this earthing (bonding) to the gas and water pipes. All new sockets need to be RCD protected now, and if you fuse board doesn't have this, the sparks will either have to fit and RCD socket (about 10 x the price of a normal one) or fit RCD circuit breaker in your board. The earthing would need to be installed to gas and water if not in place already - so worst case, it might be a bit more than £100!

best to get a couple of prices in
