annual travel insurance renewal urgent hlp pls...

Hi

I had a message to say my annual travel insurance needs renewing today. In the last year I have developed symptoms and been under investigation for a chronic illness but not diagnosed. If I just renew the existing premium at the quote given, do I need to declare these symptoms? Will I still be covered if it is a seamless renewal or would it still be treated as a pre-existing condition??

Thanks

Leah

    No.

With annual policies there are 2 occasions when you need to declare all pre-existing conditions:

    1) When you buy or renew the policy

    2) When you book a trip

So it is wrong (and potentially dangerous) to think that if you are free of any declarable conditions when you buy/renew the policy you never need to declare any that occur during the period under cover.

You will need to declare that you are under investigation. However they will not cover an undiagnosed condition until you have a firm diagnosis and then they may or may not cover it.
  • If you have a holiday booked then you may need to cancel it before the cover runs out and claim on the old policy.

However, there may be a restriction if you booked after you became aware of the illness.

You cannot just cancel a holiday and claim the cost of cancellation off your insurance. (The reason for the cancellation needs to be covered by the policy - and the OP has no insured reason!)
