Line-up for Monday 24th January 2011
The line-up for Mon 24th Jan 2011 is;
Yorkshire born lass Lindsay Smith has been playing the guitar and singing since she was 14, and since then has played many bars and pubs, busked for money and for fun, and has gradually worked her way up to venues, most notably, in Birmingham, London, New York, Barcelona and San Francisco at jus 18. Lindsay played at the ‘Y Not Festival 2010’ and is constantly gigging. She now continues to play in her University town of Exeter, adapting and evolving her style as she is influenced by the ever changing music scene.
Daniel Maitland
Poet and Songwriter Daniel Maitland is a regular on the London scene, and has recently played with folk legend Dave Swarbrick and indie rising star Daniel Heptinstall from The Alps. At the end of last summer he played to a packed house under his own name to welcome his album back from the printers, which was filmed and recorded. Daniel has written two novels and his poetry has been featured on Sky TV and in a number of UK magazines. His words have been set by the North Sea Radio Orchestra and a number of other artists, including Melanie Blatt, Nick Homes and members of the Stereo MCs.
Daniel played for ten years with soul legend Geno Washington, and worked in a number of other writing and performing projects – including the RSC and The Foundations. He currently works part time for the New Deal scheme, mentoring unemployed musicians, writers and other admirable layabouts.
London Grammar
London Grammar is a musical project based around the duet of vocalist Hannah Reid and musician Daniel Rothman. These two met at university over two years ago, when both realised there musical strengths and musical interests intertwined. After striking up such a great rapport, there music is going from strength to strength.
Their acclaim caught fire in 2010, with myspace views and listenings into the high thousands. Seasick Steve, was visibly blown away when he listened to tracks and in his own words said, ‘…for real man…you’ve got something real special…’ An accolade that speaks for itself.
London Grammar are now paying serious attention to creating music with their own innovative sound, from the deep and meaningful beauty of ‘Empty’, to the beautifully written ‘Other side of the sun’. These tracks don’t only highlight the promise but also the real connection and artistry that these two artists so clearly have.
Taxi Joe
An ultra-tight 3 piece blues pop band from sunny South London, dealing in killer tunes and intelligent, witty lyrics that demand a second listen; and then a third and a fourth, then more! Drawing on influences both retro and modern, they have made their live shows exciting places to be this year, with energetic, charismatic performances of their well-crafted tunes including supporting Peter Green on tour in March, and making great impressions at the City Showcase and (by invitation) the Run To the Beat event in September.This all-singing, all-dancing (allegedly!) trio are just finishing up recording some great new material, all designed to ensure that a great night out is just a Taxi Joe ride away…
Line-up for 7th February 2011
Bobbie Gordon
After a year of touring with the Noisettes and featuring on Kele Okereke’s debut album, Bobbie is set to release her EP “Matters of the Heart”. Her music has been described as the perfect marriage between Corinne Bailey Rae and Minnie Ripperton, with the quirky sentiments behind her songs finished off with a sprinkle of sugary pop.
Holly Walker
Holly is a London girl, lives in Camden, plays the ivories and sings like a small hungry bird. She is part of the OneTaste collective (they launched Jamie Woon and Newton Faulkner among others) who’ve said ‘Holly is an incredible singer-songwriter that has just burst onto the London scene. Witty lyrics mixed with a disarmingly angelic voice and punchy piano playing. One to watch’. She describes her genre as ‘wayward’ or ‘thrash pop’ and last year played the likes of Camden Crawl, Secret Garden Party and Oxjam.
