The tv has gone kaput and we need a new 1(obviously HD), the old 1 was fine until about an hour ago when it randomly turned off then came back on for about 5 minutes then turned off again and the red LED that tells you if the tv is on or off was blinking. I understand that depending how far you are sat frm the tv you buy a tv suitable for that distance well we are sat about 100 inches form the screen so what would this equate to.

Connected to the tv(but not 24/7 as only 1 scart on tv can be used):

wii using scart adapter (eg red, white, yellow)
xbox 360 using scart adapter (eg red, white yellow into scart adapter)
virgin media box using scart
dvd player using scart

id prefer to have 2 hdmi so i have the option of using my xbox 360 elite on the tv,

the size of the tv that has gone was 27 inches if its any help

there is a budget but im not sure if it would buy sometihng of good quality, budget is £400 but as i say is this enough or should it be more

forgot to say that we watch a mixture of tv eg sky sports, films and tv

Thanks for your replies

what brands should be avoided or which ones should i consider

and we would also require some kind of stand so whether we get 1 that comes with a stand

forgot to say i shall try and get to richer sounds or 1 of the other retailers and take a look at what they have

I'd suggest a minimum screen size of 40 inches, however if you want to get the benefit of 1080p then 50 inches would be better.

    Chart below explains all:-

    Entering Columbo mode............................

One more thing that I have found is that new TV's shrink.

One that seems huge on day one may seem barely adequate after a few weeks.

When i was sorting out a new TV I cut out the profile of several screen sizes in cardboard to see how they looked in the room.

went from 28" CRT to 37" LCD
a few months later I decided to go or a 50" plasma
perfect size for our modest new build living room
