Admiral Car Insurance taking 15 Months to repair car-Help!!

Hmmm......i've just worked out that the £300 compensation they offered works out at 70p per day from when my friend picked up the car in the first place from the repairing garage (20th November 2009, then he found that the rep[air wasn't up to standard) to the date my friend received the offer on friday.
I must say that 70p per day doesn't sound fair to me when you consider all the travelling (860 miles to and from the garage) he had to do and all the time off work he has had to take off to go and pick the car up.
I do hope they don't withdraw the offer though....!0 -
direct out of pocket expenses (travel, time off work, alternative transport costs) are easy to document and should be paid in full.
Hassle, inconvenience and not having the use of the car are more subjective but I think I remember a FOS decision where they awarded £10 a day for not having the use of the car.
Maybe worth giving them a ring and seeing if you can get an informal opinion but whatever they say balance that against the bird in the hand as if you have to take it to the FOS you could end up waiting a year plus for a decision0 -

Hi there- an update:
The other night i spent over an hour writing/typing up a well researched letter for my friend about how the compensation offer was not enough, showed the workings out, corrected the 'quality executive's several errors in her letter trying to pass blame on to the (approved by Admiral) repairer etc etc......and ended it by saying that i wouldn't be cashing the cheque for £1900, i accept their offer of £1600 for the car, so if they wanted it back then i (my friend) would gladly send it back if they wanted to revise their offer of £300 compensation.
A damn good letter!
I sent it off yesterday and told my friend (who had grudgingly agreed to a leap of faith to trust me that they wouldn't take their offer back for being 'cheeky' and that they wouldn't come around to his house, beat him up, take his tv and send him to jail...) who seemed reasonably happy....but worried.
Today he sheepishly came up to me to tell me that his mum had taken the cheque from the kitchen and cashed it in his bank. To say i was furious was an understatement as we had agreed to wait just one more week for a reply!
I asked him to go in to the branch today to see if there was any way to stop the cheque from being cashed and he sent me a text to say that the money had appeared in his account so there was no need to go into the bank. I asked him to go in to the branch and just ask anyway....he did and said they said it was too late!
Please can anyone tell me is this the case?0 -

Think it may be tough if the letter was drafted to say 'in full and finanl settlement' or something similar =/ You cashing the cheque, in their eyes at least, states that you accept the compensation offered.0 -
Yes, i think that too!
I think my friend 'took the money and ran' (annoying he didn't wait!)0
