Windows Task Manager - am I infected?

I do not download anything on my computer and I am also use SpySweeper and Norton Internet Security. However my Laptop has almost disabled by the amount of stuff running in the background.

Initially I thought I was suffering becuase of the lack of RAM but now I have upgraded it by from 256 to 640 (128 + 512). But this has not helped. I understand that Celeron Processors arent the best either. But not to this extent.

I have just restarted my computer and gone to task manager. i have a total of 44 processes running in the background.

I recently had an IT engineer set up a wireless network. Its been far worse since he meddled! Could he have done anything? He tried, but unsuccessfully to give me remote access to the server uing run Ultr@VNC Viewer.

Can you let me know if you think any of the are malacious:

The processes seem OK except for Icon.exe which is a parasite. You have many programs running which, apart from this one, all seems to be either required or running at your choice (e.g Norton & Webroot Spy Sweeper).

In view of the parasite I sugest you go here ....

....and carefully run through all the steps in the first 4 posts. That will spring clean your computer and get rid of 90% of malware.

If you have any lingering problems after this post back and let as know.

  • You can disable things like qttask.exe, realsched.exe and Igfxtray.exe - all unnecessary.

Look carefully at Syswsc.exe as this appears to be a virus. (Google says 'did you mean Symwsc.exe?' which is a sign that it's not a well-known process).

I haven't looked at everything so Google the process name to give you a good idea of what's good, bad and unnecessary.

How much memory do you have, and howmuch is free?

Post up a screenshot of the Windows Task Manager -> Performance screen, after it's been running for a few minutes.
