Our pcs at work have been upgraded and i asked the it man what was happening to the old ones. He told me they were due to be scrapped so asked if i could have one.
I took one home but need help on logging on. Its operating on a windows 2000 but I cant get past the control-alt-delete page as its asking me for a name and id as its trying to log onto the old network instead of just my alone one at home.
is there any way that i can get around this. the IT man is away on holiday for 3 weeks and i dont like the other one as he is of the old school and doesnt believe that women understand computers (not that i do mind!) and can be very scathing.
i have tried putting no log on name and password but that wont work either!
thanks

It's a legal requirement that every corporate IT dept must employ as many bast*** operators from hell as possible.
Unless you're told the Administrator password, you'll need to crack the existing one. Try ophcrack Live boot CD - this'll crack the account passwords no bother.0 -
Don’t you just need to select local machine in the log into box, you might need to click the advanced button on the login screen to display the log into menu.
You then need to use a username and password for a user account that has been set up locally on the PC.
Ask your IT man for the local user info.
Has your company given you the licenses for Windows 2000 and any other applications still installed on the PC?0 -
If you had a logon at work, it should still work at home, it will display a message saying it's logging on using cached informtation. Another way is as mentioned above, change the logon domain to the pc's own name and use a local admin password to get in. Sounds odd that he let you take it home with no evidence he allowed you to do so.0

I'm suprised he allowed you to take it home, we have skips full of kit here and we're not allowed ot have it as apparently the company could be liable if we took old kit home and it caused a fire or something. We can't even donate it to school sfor the same reason.
I'm also amazed he let you take it without wiping the hard disk, there could be company confidential info on it and presumably you won't have licenses for any of the software on it.
Although you might be able to crack the local machine admin account I owuld have thought it would be better to install a new copy of windows and build it how you want it.
Apologies if the above sounds like I'm having a go at you BTW, I'm not. I don't blame you at all for trying to get a free machine. Having always worked in IT I'm just surprised you were allowed to take it.It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -
thnaks for the replies. After what has been said I am now worried about it and think I will just take t back. I had thought about stuff that may have been on there but thought he may have done this as it has been sitting about for a couple of weeks. I really dont want to get him into trouble as maybe he shouldnt have let me have it in the first place.
I had already tried putting in my work name and password but that obviously didnt work but may now just leave it in case both of us get into trouble . its the last thing i need at the moment!0 -
If you take it back and login to the work network, it should work and cache your password.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0
